My new addition.
A nice big NSDAP Eagle.
Damaged and and starting to crumble, this proud old lady needs some help..
The plaster like material is gradually deteriorating and she also has been "touched up" in places.
Shocking.
The base obviously isn't original, but it will do for now.

Sadly it must be age or the way it has been stored.
Don't know really, but she is going to be returned to her mighty self once again.

This piece has a wingspan of 16.5 inches and 11.5 inches in height.
Nice piece. There were a couple sold at John T.'s website.

Just a quick update..
Filler now applied and left wing smoothed out.
The basic edges have been cleaned up, but more filler will need to be added to get the final correct curves.
Coming along quite nicely..
Bought another one.. couldn't resist it.

The latest Eagle has the original colour, more of a darker gold.
Two marble towers are being built to display them.
How is the restauration going?
Very slowly my friend, but I promise I will get it sorted towards Christmas.
I have a bit of time off in the new year and want these two eagles finished by then.
I've ordered some Red marble to make to two big towers and have now been notified that they are now ready for pick up.
One of the problems is with the actual plaster type it's made of, it keeps crumbling when I'm sanding down the filler.
But I'm getting there, and hopefully it will be worth the wait.

Quite a task you have set yourself there. Did you stabilise the damage with a water based adhesive before applying filler? This would create a better bond between subject and repair when reducing the filler. Also what type of filler did you use? The best type would be an easy sand filler and definitely not a hard car repair one. The softer the better as it will put less stress on the edges when sanding and reduce the chance of more damage. Finally good luck matching the gold colour. The last restoration I did on a brewery advertising figure with gold paint I was surprised how many shades of gold there actually are. Very much look forward to seeing the finished article with the red marble base.
