Tom Wittmann in fact had one and he returned it to the city that it was liberated from by a GI.

Very cool. They still wear those on the specific occasions to this day - well at least I saw it in the 1990's when I was stationed in Germany.

A very fascinating piece, most probably ended up a war prize seized by an Allied serviceman.

Yes, this was brought back by an American infantryman. The family stated that the a German officer was not too happy when this was taken off the wall and he had to be restrained at rifle point.

It's nice when these shooting awards can be repatriated to their city of origin.
