I have always wanted one of these. They certainly display nicely.
Thanks to all - the Spade does pop-up once in a while but you have to remember unlike other NSDAP regalia these were used after 45 to rebuild Germany etc.

What an unusual and interesting piece. As I read this thread, my thoughts were most of these must have been used postwar to clean up the vast damage in Germany. I see our minds had the same thought. I recall reading a book written by a former Heer officer who had served in the RAD. He mentioned in the book that they had to keep their shovel polished for when they went on parade. That must have been a job!

Yes Bob, great minds think alike - But as Walkwolf mentioned in his post these were also used in Germany in the "Schrabergartens" weekend/vegetable gardens, which are very popular even today. When I was in Germany in the early 60,s I used to see these used in this fashion.
