I guess I wrongly assumed that this donated artifact would become part of the museum's displays and would not be for sale.

I really really do not like this.
This is why I never donate anything to private Museum.
I think it is going to the museum but someone is selling it.

I have one of these eagles, mine is not in quite as good a condition as this one but I am sure this eagle is good. I hope the family that donated it is aware that it is now being sold, if so and they are happy with this decision then fair enough, if not, I think that is a bit poor really.

The donor told me I could do whatever I wanted to do with it, and if I didn't take it, he was going to melt it down for scrap. And this is the first thing that I've done this with, which by the way, if you donate to any other museum, is standard. Sorry you're disappointed, but this is only "one" item out of hundreds of things that have been donated, and which are still on display or in storage.

I suppose I could post the emails I've been getting from people asking me to sell it...at least I offered it to everyone so at least someone can get a good deal and will appreciate it instead of just selling it under the table.

In that case then fair enough, I'd buy it myself if I had the spare cash.
