This is the first example I've seen with a lid. I have a Police marked tureen - I use it on occasion - and have seen the SS Reich version.

Does the tureen have a groove to support the lid? Or does it otherwise fit properly? Usually, a tureen lid will also have a notch opening to allow a ladle to sit in the tureen with the lid on.

I have a couple without lid and they were used to serve "Weisswurst" which is a german sausage boiled in water and served in water to keep it hot.But i guess one could use this tureen/bowl to serve just about anything i.e. soup , one dishmeal, etc.
