Re: SS Auschwitz plate for your opinions
I am no expert on this items but it just does not look right at all.
Is it silver ?Does this platter have any marking at all in the back of it?
Where is the seller.?t just do not look period to me.
Also I do not think anyone would want to make a mistake on a inspectors name.

Re: SS Auschwitz plate for your opinions
I should have a pic of the back of the plate shortly, and will post. I agree that it looks somewhat amateur when you consider who it was for, and you would certainly want to impress him at that time.

Why does anyone need the back? its wrong flat out. Put your cigarette out in it an move on.

Sorry to tell you it is just not good at all,the marking in this case will not help.

Re: SS Auschwitz plate for your opinions
It is bad.
We have discused items similar to this one before: fakers will buy an old item on a flea market and then add a fake inscription to them. The engraving here is the key, badly done.
And guys, please no personal attacks. People are free to add as much detail in any reply as they see fit. It is always nice to know the reasoning behind an opinion, but don't demand it. You can always tell by someones previous replies if they know what they are talking about.
Cheers, Ade.

Re: SS Auschwitz plate for your opinions
Allow me to add that the engraving is not only ugly, it is also written in terribly poor, garbled German and was obviously done by someone who does not speak the language. (and did not even bother to check the right spelling of "Glücks")

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
