Bringing this thread back up. Is there any consensus, do people think these ceremonial boxes are real?

While there is no direct proof that the boxes were made before 1945 yet, here are some facts to consider:

The total number of boxes with SS runes known to exist is probably a dozen or so.

The workmanship is what can be expected from a German wood carver in the first half of the last century (crisp details, precise cuts and fits, exact placement of nails, overall neatness, etc.).

There are boxes identical to those with SS runes, but with different motives on the lid. Some have dates engraved (e.g two with non-Nazi themes 1945 and 1953).

So why does this matter ? It would have to be assumed that fakers could easily make many more. And why would they waste their time making those dated after the war ? These are probably worth $20 or so. Then again, there are a few fakes out there - but they are very easy to spot, because they do not even come close !

It may come down to the hands-on experience, like in a few other cases. Seeing and feeling is believing. These are remarkable artefacts, no doubt.

There is no direct prove it's false or good.
If there's no direct prove from the first hand it can be a falsification.
A woodcarver could make this easely.
