Wall plaque???

I've been offered this by a picker friend, came from a house clearance. The family say it's been in the house for many many years, but I just don't know if it's right or not. It looks to be sand cast, with one threaded hole on the reverse.

Ayone seen anything like this before, what is it and is it real?

Would there need to be good finish on the back, although agreed about what Germans were like for marking things. I've never really seen anything like this before so hard to tell...
