What is a hitler bust worth?

They'd be more likely to entertain offers I'm sure...Also depends how much $$ he has invested in it and how soon he needs to re-coup his money. These busts aren't all too difficult to find at a much more reasonable price...In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Gottlieb is trying to triple the return on his investment by hyping the story.

Out of curiosity, what value would you place on just the bronze if you were asked to name a price to buy it at?

Well as TR collector with an interest in the period knowing that the piece has a significant damage spot, but with the provanance, I would venture a guess at 2 or 300 euros tops. Similar to German Cross in gold or silver with the enamel busted out of it.
That is my personal and professional opinion for what it is worth.

Gottlieb considers himself a superstar when it comes to militaria and thus demands superstar prices, wait for one to come from private hands, it will save you money.

Gottlieb is a legend in his own mind!He overprices everything and don't think he is a above selling bad stuff!!If you go to his site check out the "Bird Dagger" which he priced at $79,995 when he first put the piece on his site.Their was a discussion on this forum about it and it is a well known FAKE.Now he has reduced the dagger to $49,995 (nice of him).The only reason for his reduction is he bought it for $40,000.If i was you i would steer clear of him big time as as i stated he thinks he's a big S---!

Honestly the SAD part of all this is he is one of the 10 major players that dictate the prices in this market...
He asks for stupid money for stuff and gets it..
At least 75% marked up higher than it should really be..

Odd material for a sculptured bust - which are usually
cast in bronze.........
