    Truth be told, he doesn't look like Churchill to me. Actually, I think it is much more likely that this is Jaroslav Hašek's famed literary creation, the good soldier Švejk.

    I agree, this isn't Churchill.

    Churchill wasn't the only cigar smoker during the war........

    Onkel Heini und Onkel Hermann were partial to a puff on Cuba's finest......

    HPL is indeed quite correct - well spotted!

    Here are a couple of images of different depictions of Švejk. Note the pipe - compare to the above figurine, which unfortunately appears to have lost its pipe.

    By the way, where is that statue? In Checzke Budejovice railway station?

    Although the station features in the story, the statue shown above is not in České Budějovice but actually Przemysl, Poland. Other notable locations of Švejk statues are Humenné in Slovakia, Sanok in Poland and St.Petersburg, Russia.

    Thanks! So i have to visit it in Poland:-). It is one of my favourite books from the early childhood. I remember when we were looking for a German translated Svejk in Prag somewhere in 1995-or 96.
