When I first saw the picture, I didn't think it was Wittmann's as there are bushes behind the tank??
But, there does seem to be something sticking up in the same place as the right rear grill, of 007.
Could these bushes have grown later, and then cut back down when the war ended.
I am fascinated by this picture, it does look like 007..
I'm delighted this has got the chaps on here interested, many thanks.

Where Wittmann was knocked out Peter was well into an open field where this one is lying right next to a track which does fit in with the location and account of where Phillipsen was knocked out , his Tiger was hit by Anti tank gun fire in a lane whislt he was leaving the village of Cahagnes , it set on fire , Phillipsen got out but was then struck by shell splinters and killed.

Wittmann's grave (block 47, grave 120) is the most photographed at La Cambe, but Hannes Philipsen's grave is located not that far away (block 30, grave 204). I made this photo last month:
Note his rank is marked as Oberleutnant, not Obersturmführer. Plenty of other graves with SS ranks so I don't know why they used the Wehrmacht equivalent.

Well done for visiting Hannes Philipsen's grave instead of the Wittmann shrine , quite a few SS RKT Panzer Commanders buried in La Cambe but most people just go to the shrine . In La Cambe are his loader at VB and some of the other Tiger crews killed on 8/8/44 but again they are ignored !

Not sure how I feel about Wheatcroft putting pieces of Wittmanns Tiger towards his restoration. Nice to see Big Heavy metal but they won't have any historical context.
