Looks to me like old Geppetto was pressed for time on a more financially lucrative carving when he knocked that eagle out......

The wood looks like it has been carved for many years ago- but as you know when it comes to all these "homemade" pieces, it is very difficult to prove their age.

I would not include it into my collection without a photo of the eagle in some kind of ww2 settings from before may 45.
The main reason is because i cant stand to have that annoying feeling that surfaces everytime i would see this object "is it pre or post 45???"

If it was cheap enough it would look ok, but only at the right price

Yes try and buy it cheap and like it for what it is. A cool wood carving.

Most of the personal desk type items I have encountered from the TR, are made of superior quality materials and workmanship. This seems to lack those traits. As said before, if price is right for you, buy it for what it is, someones hobby wood carving. I think it is pretty neat. K. Seems like the front of this piece has much better detail than the back too. maybe was a work in progress that was not quite "finished".
