    Default 1. Gebirgs Division

After watching 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin' for the umpteenth time I wondered just who were the Wehrmacht troops who committed the atrocities against the Italian troops.

These guys were as nasty as any SS unit

Anyone have any more info or pics on this division?

Not sure if the Italian army on Kefalonia were partisans

You are of course correct. I got out on a tangent and away from the subject of the Italian troops on account of you mentioning the Mountain Division being as 'nasty as any SS unit.' Got me thinking about the Florian Geyer veteran.

No comparison between regular Italian troops and partisans - quite right.

EDIT I deleted my first post so as not to derail your thread and muddy the waters in regards to the Mountain Division

(BTW Thanks for being so diplomatic about it, Nick)

    Interesting.
Sadly, I never did read much about the 1. Division. Will now remedy that.
Ive read a bit about Dietl, but thats of course a horse of a different colour ...or at least a different Mountain Division (3rd).
