    Question 227th Armee

    A while ago I befriended a girl from Switzerland. Today I found out that she had inherited a Luger, a lot of badges (like silver cross and infanterie sturmabzeichen), photos and letters from her granddad which was in SS (Dibs on the SS luger ). According to her and the letters he was in the 227th Infantry Division and she would like to know more about what they did and where they fought. Any info would be appreciated

    The 227 Infantry Division was a Wehrmacht Division. The Waffen SS had only 38 Divisions.

    @Wagriff Thats what I thought too, but she said that he was in the Waffen-SS in the 227th. I googled it and It looks like it was a combination between SS and Wehrmacht and that they merged together.

    @Paul Ok, thanks.

    Not sure what you googled but the 227 ID was never a Waffen SS Unit or merged with any Waffen SS Unit it was a Heer Divison for it's entire wartime carrerr !!

    She still insists that her granddad was in 227th as a SS, but maybe she have misread a letter or something.
