Quite an interesting read.
My grandfather served in the merchant marines and i have a newspaper article where he sent letter back home to his family telling of riding in Hitler's yacht down the Rhine river and seeing all the castles along the way. This was dated a month or so after the war ended. Can anybody tell me any more info on maybe which yacht this was? Thanks.
GOOGLE--- Hitler's Yacht Aviso Grille. Everything is right there!
Would this be the yacht he cruised down the Rhine in? It sure looks pretty big.
Yes, Hitler had a yacht/Launch that was used on the Rhine river, it was called the "Hansestadt Koln" and was a gift to him from the people of the city of Colonge.
It was liberated by the USA 329th Harbor Craft Company and is so documented in a book titled "History of the 329th Harbor Craft Company World War II"-
Have attached a few Old pictures reflecting the newspaper article from 45 showing a picture of the yacht also a short article. The yacht was used by high level officers of the 12th US Army Group - Dont know what happened to it.
Sorry for the faint pictures but they come form old faded documents.

Very interesting ,i just love history.!
Dear Sir,
Can you tell me how I can a copy of the book? My grandfather was in charge of the waterways and canals and was in charge of the troops when Hitler's yacht was captured. He sent my father the banner off of the yacht and I am trying to collect any information I can on the banner. Thank you!
As far as I know, though, Hitler's yacht was eventually scrapped some years ago, as the wood was rotting in it and was beyond repair. I remember seeing articles and books and such being sold from it some time ago. William
