Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Just to give this thread a bit of a lift with a few facts about the man, here's his biography:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erich_Rudorffer

Aces of the Luftwaffe - Erich Rudorffer

Note that he flew more than 1,000 combat missions, claimed 222 victories (including 13 aircraft in 17 minutes!!), shot down by flak and fighters 16 TIMES , taking to his parachute 9 TIMES...... He also shot down over 40 Spitfires and attained 12 victories flying the first jet fighter, the Me262 of which 10 were 4 engined bombers. I think this is impressive enough to be pointed out here, a very brave man indeed.

    Regards, Ned.
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.
Last Entry - For God's sake look after our people.'
