Here's a very interesting and thought provoking video of period unedited footage of the Atomic Bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki on the 9th of August 1945.

It shows the build up and preparation for the mission and the strike as well. The film is silent with text added, which can be a little hard to follow at times though. Therefore it's best to probably go big screen and use the pause button so you don't miss any of the illuminating and rare footage that culminated in a grim day when it's estimated between 39,000-80,000 people died, probably over half in the first day, and others over the next 3-4 months with further deaths from associated medical conditions over the coming years.

    Most thought provoking footage.

I wonder what was in the minds of the men working on that bomb, had they any clue of what they were engaged in beyond preparing a "special" bomb?

I was particularly struck by the MP with the M3 SMG over his shoulder casually watching the preparations and thought of times when I stood in similar pose looking at something I knew was "secret" but having absolutely no idea what it was or why it was important (nothing such as an A Bomb, obviously I might have twigged that one ). Such a game changing set of events and the ghost was still threatening us in the '80s (maybe still is)

    Very sobering.

    Regards

    Mark
