    Ok this is way out of left field.

    Just got some info from Germany. My great uncle died at 0400 on 17 July 1941 on the railway platform at feldlazarete 11 in porchow near east Prussia. The info also includes the fact he was buried on the western side of a sports field near the hospital in a military cemetery.

    I was most impressed at the detail of the info.

    Does anyone here study, specialize in field hospitals?????

    Good grief, you can't leave us hanging like that. Do you know any more particulars about your uncle. What division he was in, where he started, or ultimately how he was killed. Don't want to get your thread off track, but enquiring minds want to know.

    Joined in 1938 in Altenseidel near sensberg east Prussia.

    Stammrolle nr 41. 4 kompanie IR 23.

    Sept 39 - Poland
    Dec 39 - may 40 - Niederrhein Belgium, Lille
    Jun 1940 - Somme,Loire
    July 1940-41 - Atlantic
    Mar 41-may 41 - east Prussia
    Jun- jul 41- east Prussia, wolchow

    Transferred 25.10. 1940 - 12 MG Komp IR 23

    Promoted to unteroffizier 19.7.1941

    Wound near porschow in left arm, and upper thigh 18. 7 . 1941, transferred to field hospital 11 18,7.1941

    Died 0400 19.7.1941

    None of his papers survive, this info was gained from deutsche dienststelle, from the records of the former Wehrmacht. I was amazed at the detail they had seeings his wherpass, soldbuch snd wehrstsmbuch no longer exist. I have his photo which I will post ater

    Family history says he was leading a small skirmish up a hill as section commander, and was shot in the thigh by a poison tipped bullet. At least th record states that he was shot in th upper thigh, so one part of the story is correct, and his rank, would also prove he was a leader of soldiers
