The Gosprom Building.
Derzhprom (in Russian: Госпром, Gosprom) is a complex of buildings of the so-called Soviet constructivist style, built between 1925 and 1928, in Dzerzhinski Square (Since 1991, Freedom Square) of the city of Kharkov
The word Derzhprom is an acronym for the words Derzhava (State) and Promyslovist (Industry), which could be translated as State Industry; or as a State Industry Building.
After the Revolution of 1917 Kharkov became the capital of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Ukraine, so a project of urban transformation and construction of public buildings was undertaken.

Thus arises the project of a complex for the headquarters of the industrial administration of the State. In the summer of 1925 the works of the project of the architects Serafimov, Kravets and Felger began. On November 7, 1928 it was officially inaugurated. It boasted of being the first Soviet skyscraper and its architectural uniqueness comes from the perfect symmetry appreciated from the center of the Freedom Square; of the material it is made of: concrete; of its aerial walkways and its communicated towers.
During its early years it housed all kinds of state Commissions and National Commissioners. When the capital of Ukraine was transferred to Kiev in 1934, it became the seat of the Soviet or regional government of its Oblast.
During the German occupation (1941-1943) the ground floor was used as stables and garages. Before their definitive withdrawal from Kharkov in August 1943, the Germans set fire to a part of the building.
Between 1944 and 1947 the complex was completely rehabilitated. Since 1955, one of its towers is the headquarters of television, so an antenna was installed on the roof.
After the independence of Ukraine in 1991, the public offices housed in the building became private or were closed, leaving the building with little use. Before its state of deterioration, in 2001 it was decided to restore it again, works that lasted until 2010. Seven of its twelve elevators in service, are original.

Today the Derzhprom is the largest office building in the city and is rented for both public and private companies, or organizations.

Fascinating thread
Its amazing to see these cities before being destroyed . I particularly enjoy seeing images of Stalingrad before the battle, it looked such a beautiful and peaceful place... unaware of the Apocalypse about to befall it
