I know many German veterans but someone just turning up unannounced at their door isn't the way it's done i'm afraid !!
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Couldn't agree more, especially if we bear in mind how old these men are. With the end of the war 68 years back, even a 16-year-old former Volkssturm member is now 84!

(By the way, Rochus Misch had already declared he was no longer able to reply to "fan mail" because of his old age and poor health back in 2011.)

You could always call into the 'Tiger Apotheke' in Herschweiler-Pettersheim to buy 'something for the weekend' and respectfully ask if Herr Apotheker Carius is on the premises and if you could have a quick word with him. Asking to buy a copy of 'Tiger im Schlamm' might help too.
