    I am looking at information regarding Dr. Ignaz Artner KIA 1945 in Berlin... was he a combat officer or other?

    Second name is last name Dierich.

    I am looking at both of these rings Andy at Militarynut has for sale and would like to purchase one that belonged to a true infantry commander, even if not highly decorated.

    Thank you to any and everyone in advance for your help and sharing your knowledge with me.

    p.s. I think Dr. Artners unit was, SS-Pz.-Aufkl.-Abt. 11 What does this mean in nazi jargon? I am in the US army so military organization is not foreign to me.

    SS Panzer Aufklarungs Abteilung 11 was part of the Nordland Panzer Grenadier Divison , and yes he is listed as Abteilung Artz as part of the Stab.

    He was born in 1917 at Hollerbrunn / Donau and enlisted in the Waffen SS in October 1940 , seeing action in Russia wirh 2 SS Infanterie Brigade from November 1941 before transferring to Nordland in 1943 , KIA 2/5/45 in Berlin,

    As part of SS Panzer Aufklarungs Abteilung 11 he will have been in action in Oraniunbaum , Narva , Dorpat , Kurland , Altdamm , Berlin etc etc !!

    I do not know of Dierich being in that unit, only Doc Arten. I have no other information on Dierich other than a last name, hence my utter lack at supplementary information. Cant find him on SS officer lists available to me (limited) etc.
