Information on Kriegsmarine training etc during WW2

Hi,

Can anyone help me. My father passed away this year in June and I have been trying to research his war record. I have some information which they have sent me from Berlin about his training, where and when it took place.
I know he was on a U-Boat at some time ( though have no info re this).
I am not having much luck and wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction as to web sites etc where I can get the info I need.

Do you have any pictures of him in uniform, awards, or original documents that belonged to him?

Hi ObKrieger.
Yes I have a photo of him, my mum has others and all the documentation ( family tree) dad required to join the German navy. The family tree goes back quite a few generations, I think this is because you had to prove you did not have any Jewish ancestory, but not 100% sure about that.
I am afraid dad didn't get anyawards, he was just an ordinary sailor, taken off his U-Boat, when fuel was running low etc, to fight on land. He was captured in Cherbourg by the Americans in June 1944.
He spent some time in America, then was sent to Scotland, then to the Fens of Cambridgeshire, where he eventually met my mother through a conscientious objector (excuse the spelling) who had befriended my father.
I don't have alot to go on, but Mum remembers quite a bit. We chat sometimes about his war years so I am getting some more info and have had a couple of replies which have given me web sites and places to try.
I wish I had asked him more when he was alive, sadly now it is too late.
