It refers to a Feldwebel Karl Eich of Grenadier-Regiment 222.
The regiment was established on 15 Oct. 1942 by re-naming Infanterie-Regiment 222 and sub-ordinated to th 75th Infanterie-Division. It finished the war in Upper Silesia.

Grenadier Regiment 222 was part of the 75 Infanterie division...heavy losses in the winter 42/43 which resulted in the disbanding of the II Battalion...ended the war fighting in Upper Silesia...that's all I could find, good luck with your search.
    cheers, Glenn

Why I am researching this is beacuse I came across an EK1 and I e-mail Nick about it. He said it looked questionable. It was represented as a "Presentation award". It was on a Reputable Auction in Pennsylvania.
It has been bugging me since seeing it. If the engraving was something the family did after he was Killed in action or if it was done for some other reason? Does he really Exist. How could I find some history on him if he did. I am not an expert on EK1's by any means. The engraving and style "looks" period. This is why I am researching this name. The help you have given me so far is great.

    It's more than questionable.

The EK is 100% fake - no question of that.

Therefore the inscription is too and I wouldn't waste my time looking any further at it. If it's coming up for auction you could attempt to notify the auction house but I don't expect they'll remove it unless they have a lot of integrity.

It doesn't take much to look up a soldier or unit and then engrave it on the back of a fake item to make it more saleable.
