Big bugger of a soldering iron!! ..... I thought they would have used a more delicate one?

And is that a GRAND CROSS in the bin at front? ....... sure looks big!!

I believe they carefully filed the edges after soldering .

They sure did file the edges after soldering :-)
Very interesting pictures . I have once completely re soldered a EK 1 , but there I used a flame, since I do not have this special equipment ;-)

Wouldnt it be nice to have some of those coining dies in your collection?

Sad to think they probably all ended up in landfill.

The first photo is pretty interesting as they are casting a few different awards at once, also why cast the core with a "suspension ring" bracket? unless that ring is just something to handle the die?....

    Hi Gunny,
It is interesting ! I canĀ“t think of any reason, ecept if it has to do with removing the model from the sandcast mold without damaging the lower edge !? maybe using a pair of tweezers to carefully lift it out using the "suspension ring" ?? and then remove it from the cross after casting ?? I have a couple of seperate cores in my collection, unfortunately non cast, alle stamped and cut mecanically :-/ They have no traces of a ring, so I guess there would be no use for it later in the process !? STRANGE ;-)
