Two of the Soviet soldiers from the reconnaisance unit of 135 rifle regiment, most probably mortarmen, (due on the picture at left side one soviet 50-mm visible) who was imprisoned during the German attack to the strongpoint hill 122 in the Fischerhalls area ( Eismeer front) at 30th June 1941 year
    The Gebirgsjager are from 2/ Geb. Jag. Rgt 136

    The man's daughter can be proud-her father looks to have met his fate Bravely like a Man. Were the 2 bodies simply Left where they fell? It's amazing that there was anything left to identify. Was the other soldier also able to be named?

    Powerfull and sickening, if these were the circumstances; two soldiers executed for simply doing what was expected of them - and to face death with such dignity !!!

    Very Unusual to see the paperwork filled in but as it was it can now give the daughter some closure on her father missing for so long.
    The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

    Amazing --- all honor and praise to you guys for making this happen and recovering their bodies after all these years! Those then and now photos are chilling to say the least...
