The site that Paul recommended is German but you can
use one of the translator sites on the web

Das Ritterkreuz is probably the best site of it's kind on the web , it is in German but to be honest a very basic knowledge of the German langauge and you will be able to get around it,

I know what you are saying about age Paul
but I have pictures in my collection of men
that were taken at the begining of the war
and then six years later and they have aged
considerably - you only have to imagine the
horrors these men would have seen. Can you
recommend a good source of photos?

    Cheers

Cheers Ostmark, when I looked closer at the picture that Paul posted up of Steier and the picture that I have there is definately some similarities, I also think that with the caption Panzer on the reverse of the photo and the way he is dressed there are to many coincidences.

    Thanks again

    Hi Kieron,

A few years in combat can age a man but i really can't see any similarities between your man and Gottwald Stier, as i said i have seen a few different photos of him none of which resemble your man.

On the negative side also he has been allowed to keep his awards but no Ritterkreuz.

Is the name on the back of your photo Stier or Steier ?

    regards

    Paul

Hi Paul the name on the photo is spelt Steier and next to it "Panzer" would you have another picture of Stier later on?

All the ones i have seen show him looking quite youthful or at least his age , all were taken after his RK Award as they all have him wearing the decoration.
