This material is courtesy of my friend, David Delich, who has mastered Sutterlin, as have I. No serious collector can function without such skills.

From these and other images I learned to read Sütterlin, but when it is
handwritten it is still difficult as many people write "Sütterlin with crawl".
    A double crawl, it is!!
I can't remember when I got my first Sütterlin explanation, but it must be
    40 years ago.

We are grateful for your learning.
I had to learn it to read the documents of the Admiralstab of the kaiserliche Marine when I wrote my master's thesis.

I am studying the art of Calligraphy, but it is no easy task. I have a couple of examples of art on my wall that i have made. It is a very tranquile hobby, i can recommend it to everyone.

I do not master Sutterlin- yet.

When I was about 10 years old I found a shoebox of WWI German postcards in an old house, and brought them to my German grandmother, who helped me decipher them...That's how I got started...
    cheers, Glenn

Excellent Topic. I have been researching the Third Reich and the timeline and implementation of the "Final Solution" for a long time, in hopes of maybe writing a book about it. But in that time I have come across numerous documents and writing which were in Sutterlin. It is a very difficult script to read, especially if you only have a minor understanding of German.

Whats interesting is that in 1935 Sutterlin was the only writing style to be taught in German Schools, by law. Then it was banned in 41' claiming to be a Jewish script. Which is odd considering Himmlers signature on the SS Honor Rings is Sutterlin.
