Article about: by hucks216 I think the first one (or 2) is based on fact but the rest are pure fiction. You're right, The first one (Wheels of Terror i think) was based on real life events. He was a Dutch

    As i happened to raise this on another thread as part of a reply to a question by another member it seems to have raised the debate factish or fantasy i choose to keep an open mind but this debate crops up every time you search sven hassel on the web so just to play devils advocate i throw it open to the board and let you kick it around for a while and see what you guys can come up with ,all the best Rob

    I think they are just fantasy, if it were real, he would have been in the most mobile German unit ever.

    I read several of them years ago as a teenager and I remember thinking even then that if 1/2 the German army was 1/2 as good as Sven and his pals they would have won WW2 by a country mile!

    Totally Nazi-porn rubbish (but entertaining)

    There is an official Sven Hassell website with some eastern front photograps showing Sven with some of his comrades who were inspiration for the main characters in the book. Real or not - I dont know!

    Yes, he was Danish born, there are photos of him with various vehicles and his "colleagues", supposedly his inspirations for the characters in his books, but i think that most of his writings were pure escapism, based on certain events either witnessed or related to him and then embellished to make good reading

    Is this Sven listed in any german records? If he were a heroic warrior apart of a great fighting unit I think his name would come up like other heros. I've never read the books but I have glanced at the the back of them to see what they were about and just from that I passed it off as an author's fantasy.
