Re: sven hassel books fact or fantasy
I think they are just fantasy, if it were real, he would have been in the most mobile German unit ever.

I think the first one (or 2) is based on fact but the rest are pure fiction.

Re: sven hassel books fact or fantasy
I read several of them years ago as a teenager and I remember thinking even then that if 1/2 the German army was 1/2 as good as Sven and his pals they would have won WW2 by a country mile!
Totally Nazi-porn rubbish (but entertaining)

Re: sven hassel books fact or fantasy
There is an official Sven Hassell website with some eastern front photograps showing Sven with some of his comrades who were inspiration for the main characters in the book. Real or not - I dont know!

Re: sven hassel books fact or fantasy
Wasn't he a Danish volunteer?
-
Re: sven hassel books fact or fantasy
Yes, he was Danish born, there are photos of him with various vehicles and his "colleagues", supposedly his inspirations for the characters in his books, but i think that most of his writings were pure escapism, based on certain events either witnessed or related to him and then embellished to make good reading

Re: sven hassel books fact or fantasy
Is this Sven listed in any german records? If he were a heroic warrior apart of a great fighting unit I think his name would come up like other heros. I've never read the books but I have glanced at the the back of them to see what they were about and just from that I passed it off as an author's fantasy.
