Thank you guys We visited my wifes very old grand mother during new year and of course i pumped her for stories. She have seen quite a lot. She was at a time working in a farming brigade. They were pulling wagons and harvesting etc, them pulling wagons and plows. Horses went to the front! As a teaser i can say i have a real heart breaker story about some German POW's. It should even be possible to research it

Thing is i have to sit and write while picking my wife's brain. I will do it soon guys

    Regards, Lars

Good idea Lars , much is now available in print about the German experience of the War on the Eastern Front but due to langauge and the difficulties after the war we can all still learn much about the expereince of the ordinary Russian families !!
If anyone is interested in the war seen from the ordinary russian soldiers point of view I can highly recommend Catherine Merridale's: Ivan's War: Life and Death in the Red Army, 1939-1945.

Lars, this is not an attempt to steal your excellent thread, looking forward to the full story about Nicolai.

    Cheers, Mads
