Default F-S Knife Possible 3rd Pattern with 2nd Pattern style blade

11 inches overall with a 6 1/4 inch blade. Blade is bright and I believe hand ground (because of flat triangle area) with the distinctive Wilkinson Sword Logo and F-S Knife Logo on the ricasso. Hilt is a dark coppery brass. Rings are showing copper finish. Bottom of hilt shows "2" for the foundry cast mold. The scabbard (not pictured) is typical brown leather with dark colored brass drag and really weak elastic band.

I work for an antique militaria shop and just wanted to learn a little more about this alteration. I've read this combination of the 2nd pattern style hand ground blade with the logos and the 3rd pattern hilt is rare and desirable. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion and perhaps a value.

This is my first post, Thanks!

3rd pattern knives with hollow ground blades are not rare but not very
common either. Etched versions however are much harder to find.

Looks to me like a very fine condition WW2 3rd pattern and not at all easy to find with both the WS and FS etchings. Worth considerably more than an un-etched pattern, perhaps three times IMO. Regards, Clive.

    I certainly would Greg.
I have an interesting possible FS prototype in my collection.
Steel 24 ring handle, wide non sharpened blade, late war period scabbard.Good pantina.
It's very very similar to the WS prototype Roy Shadbolt obtained from the WS factory 2 odd years ago.
I obtained this FS came out of the US around the same timeframe as Roys find.
I feel it's a good period piece, possibly a prototype sent to the US for evaluation due to the balance issues with the 3rd pattern knife.
I won't post it today as I don't wish to jump into nammox's thread but would appreciate someone with a solid background in FS knives to have a look at it..
Welcome to the forum nammox and seebee 1.
    Cheers

Nice knife. Looks to be a 2nd pattern blade. Certainly the same as my knurled handled 2nd pattern. I'd say that the blade has been shortened and re-pointed as was quite commonly done.

    A nice variation.

And please post the photos. I can never see enough photos of F-S knives (other than 3rd pattern and civvy ones of course - no style to them ) I'll try to get some decent photos of my one to post too.

It's a shame Clive was unable to post his pictures. He has one of the best
collections of FS knives that I have ever seen.(As well as other knives)

This is the best I can do for pictures-----

Very nice gregM, appreciate your comments. Unfortunately I have to get all my postings approved by the Moderators before I can post anything. I can freely do this on all other Forums I belong to, but seemingly not this one. This obviously causes delay, but may well post some images in the future if this improves. Regards, Clive.
