Identifying WWII F-S Knife

Hi everyone sorry i don't have the facilities to paste a pic but i will describe the knife as best I can.

It belonged to my Grandfather who was a British Paratrooper in WWII.

The knife is a black model i think, there is a '1' stamped on the top of the handle and the pattern of the handle is round circles not the knurling i usually see in pictures.

Its stamped 'B2' but i can't see any broadarrow or england stamps.

I had thought it to be a 2nd Pattern B2 variant, is this the case? I can't find any pictures of that type with a handle like mine and those with the knurled handle seem to have the '2' at the top not '1'.

EDIT: further research leads me to believe the blade is hand ground if that helps, it has the v-shaped wedge at the top

Sounds like a Third pattern knife.

The hilts of Pattern 3 are all made by the same company - Wolverhampton Die Casting Ltd Wolverhampton, England. Each grip has a small number between 1 and 4 cast on the pommel. These numbers refer only to the mould used to cast the hilt. Manufacture of the 3rd pattern began in 1942 with more than 100 companies producing it worldwide.
