I picked up this Fallschirmjager Badge a few years ago on an auction site and I was hoping to get some feedback on it's authenticity and value. I researced it in Robin Lumsden's book "Detecting the Fakes" and it seems authentic. The maker is Gebruder Schneider Wein. Any thought or comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

For me it is not a good badge, It does not have a BSW hardware pin configuration , I do not like the shape of the pin, the rivets are far too large and off centre, the reef is too thick the eagles head does not sit right and it looks to be artificially aged. Robins book was great when it first came out, but like every book it has its limitations.

If you are serious about Para badges may I suggest the new Previtera book. Combat Badges of the 3rd Reich Expensive, but a must for any serious collector............... incidentally, what is its weight?

It may be an early Stagmier copy

I would agree. Sorry that is not a good badge.

With respect to the author of the book (who is a forum member) it is now grossly out of date.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thank you for all the information. I guess the consensus is that it is a fairly good quality reproduction. The medal weighs just over an ounce and felt right but I'm just a novice. I actually had friend test all my medals & badges for metal content. This one gave the following results.

    Eagle: Wreath: Back:
    Silver 55% 75% 9%
    Copper 27% 15% 65%
    Zinc 7% 5% 25%
    Gold 4%
    Tin 2%
    Iron 1% 5% 1%
