Cheers for that David, I got the info from the Angolia book, I have seen the post war buckles but with the wear on the buckle and the stiching on the tab to me looked period.

Dear Ben
Clumsy and lazy English on my part and I owe the forum an apology.
Rather like yourself, I think that the buckle that started the thread is an original pre 1945 example. I do like that distinctive catch.
What I was trying to say and in my Neanderthal sort of way is that in my opinion, the buckle per se was produced pre 1945, however also for a period, post 1945.
Hope that this clarifies my comments.
Regards,
David
Yes David, it does indeed I will try and find a post 45 example to post on the thread for reference. I have been looking at the buckle and recently I have seen a late war SS buckle with a catch almost identical, do you think the buckle could have been made by Overhoff?
Ben
Chaps, having a good look at the buckle and I saw this buckle, look at the catches and how similiar they are, anyone any thoughts?
Ben
Very similar, so buckle until 1945?
Ben, and how often they come with a leather tab
They dont normally, if the original owner put one on you are lucky, so in all they were not issued with leather support tabs but some owners had them put on
Ben
Thank you.
