Default Auer gas mask canister red paint remnants-how to date?

Recent pickup. I do not know for sure if this is wwii, pre war of post war. I couldnt find any dates on it but top of canister does have large A for auer and berlin under it. It also appears to have been painted red at some point as looks like red on latch closure although green inn other places. Unfortunately rust got the most of it. So, any thoughts on maybe when this dates to and if red paint tells anything.Auer gas mask canister red paint remnants-how to date?Auer gas mask canister red paint remnants-how to date?Auer gas mask canister red paint remnants-how to date?Auer gas mask canister red paint remnants-how to date?Auer gas mask canister red paint remnants-how to date?Auer gas mask canister red paint remnants-how to date?

It will be pre WW2, but it is original although its been repurposed later by someone and repainted red. The strap looks like a post war BW one.

I am going to go with post war here. From what I've seen every example with the Auer logo stamped on the top has been a post war example. Normally there is a Nato stock code stamped on the lenses compartment. One thing I have noticed is on the metal handle for the spare lenses compartment, it appears post war examples have a fully rounded shape, where as war time ones have a flat top. I cannot say this for 100% certainty but I have just noticed this in a few examples online:

Here are some war time dated examples, note the flat topped tab design:

Here are some post war BGS ones (Like yours, all stamped with the Auer logo):

I did find one war time example to this rule, however had a much more defined curve and had brass fittings. These differences can also be noted in the pictures provided by Rick. I am also inclined to say the straps are post war.
