Bakelite Cup - WW2 made?

hi All,

You guys think this cup is WW2 made?
"Feels" a little lighter than my other original bakelite cup - and not as "smooth" finish...
The only marking is: F7 and S in a round logo.

Pour hot water on it, or rub it vigorously with your fingers and smell them.
There should be one terrible/awful smell coming off of it ! I would guess
that repros are made of plastic and will not give off an odour.........

Did also the "flicking test"

"Flick a good one with your finger and flick a post-war one with your finger and you can hear the difference in sound. Really, works every time.
The original will will "click" more and the fake will "thunk"."

Always be wary of circular marks, as these are where ejector pins push the part out. Generally bakelite does not have these. Also do the squeeze test~ it should not flex easily. Finally with a scalpel try to shave a tiny bit Ioff the rim edge~ bakelite will not shave! They are the checks...... Good luck!

THX Dan, I was also a bit worried about the circular marks as well...
Here's an original (I think) with the same marks:

The marks can exist on some originals but also on the plastic repros. Bakelite is phenolic resin with fillers added that is heat cured to be very hard. It will break before it bends and that is why it wont flex like plastic will or shave off like plastic.

I like the tapping test myself. You may also see very tiny hairline cracks that don't show up on plastic. Glad you got an authentic one. I think these sell in the $40 $50 range now. NH

The repro is like the original except the weight....The orange version is transparent!
