    Not strictly field equipment but certainly something a soldier would have on his person are a diary, bible and other useful booklets and instructions printed by the thoughful and ever organised administration services of the army.

    Here are a few examples.....please feel free to add your own examples, the more the merrier.

    Diary for 1940, private purchase

    diary for 1944 whermacht issue

    Note pad

    bible

    catholic prayer books

    how to survive the russian winter booklet .....published a little too late for the first winter !

    and a useful russian to german translation book for everyday use for the invading hordes !
