Photos are kind of fuzzy. We need to see neck of the canteen for an additional date perhaps. Is the cup aluminum or enameled steel? Same question applies to the canteen. It may be a late war issue with steel canteen. They are often a dark red color. NH
A late war feldflasche with cloth cover (not felt) with pigskin straps. Probaby red or green enameled steel.
A rare find in such good condition.

Leather looks strong enough to open up.... Just be carefull not to break the leather.....

Thanks for the feedback and comments - I did decide to remove the leather very carefully and as you all noted the canteen is red and the bakelite cap has a makers mark - This canteen really has never seen any use ,an outstanding example.
Decided to put it in the classifieds as I'm not a collector of field items.
