    From the picture, honestly i can't say if the thread is original or not on the smaller field dressing. Why not ?
    A better and closer pic would be helpful.

    Both look good to me, I have a few of these. They have started refocusing these for reneactors, usually filled with cotton or tampons!

    Here is a closer picture. The thread is just like some green nylon thread I have from US Army surplus, and the way it is tied is not like the originals I have seen. Looks like a modern replacement.
    I'll be on the lookout for another.

    As far as I am aware this type was tied with thread to keep the outer cloth on. Yours could be a modern repro, looks very rectangular, or it was unissued. I have seen modern ones similar to yours. You could bite the bullet and unwrap it!!!
