I think "Red" (Red inside) grips are later commercial? Not sure, but there's a well worn set on eBay right now, should someone need a set. I'll see if there's enough natural light to "shoot" mine today., and if so post what I think is a very fine example.

    Steve,

....The wood grips do have red lacquer on the inside......
Mark, it did look re-blued, but it's still a nice HP ! The red painted
grips are likely from the 1960's-70's. They are painted to
prevent gun oil and moisture from seeping into the
    wood and staining them black.........

This was a 1944 vet bringback FN Hi Power I acquired some years back, from a local Iraq vet (this was his uncle's) trying to come up with some bill $$$. Very nice wear throughout, just the right amount of patina, a LOT of personality... I just can't get really decent pics on a dark day like this... Shame really, but here goes all the same.

Thx much, I think it's pretty amazing. I've had a lot of Third Reich pistols, but I'm really partial to this one. Some of it I think is the incredible history behind the Hi Powers. Used by more armed forces at one time or another than any other pistol ever made, during the 20th century, anyway. Also the fact that it was used by both sides during the war is certainly a distinction in itself.

Could you post a link or provide the item number
for the worn grip set ? Either of us could be
    interested in them.........!

Here they are, probably not a bad deal. I bet they'd look great installed.

Thanks. ( U.S. shipping only ! ) These are not WWII era, but would do
as a good replacement set until an original pair could be found.........

Reviving another old thread - just added another 'collection-completing' item with the arrival of an HP35 holster. This came via a UK dealer and was certainly not cheap. I did a fair amount of online research before buying - there are many repro/fake holsters out there and 'proper' ons aren't straightforward to find.

A useful resource - the only one of its' kind I could locate - is this thread at a gun forum, I hope it's OK to reference here ; -

WWII German Hi-Power holster codes and dates

'My' one is by Carl Busse of Mainz and the WaA286 is very faintly visible on the reverse ( too faint to photograph properly ). Apparently Busse were the only manufacturer to use the distinctive 'pebbled' finish in both brown and black leather for this type of gun. The holster has a fair amount of wear but the threading is all intact and the leather is in good, supple condition.

Again - ever since seeing one in the famous 'Poteau' photos - something I've long wanted and am happy to have.
