As I have understood, these lamps was probably used by Aircraft mechanics, working outside at night.
I speculate that these were also used by Surgeons in the field hospitals...
cheers, Glenn
One friend told me that :
"Regarding the lamp:
not for pilot and not for paratrooper.
It belongs to an optic :
To the Richtkreis 31 .
The artillery soldieres could read the outside-scales of the Richtkreis during night use."
I guess all that could be Artillery at night with a light I would think would bring counter battery fire if spoted from a high point I suspose if used in a covered setting might. I have seen a period picture in or somewhere of that type attached to a flight helmet in the cocpit of plane reading a map I know they also had lamps inside the plane. Definetly a lot of possible things exist for its use. I have never had or seen one like posted. timothy
