Default Gas Cape Pouch. Another Repo?

    Hi guys

I need your expert opinion again. Attached are pictures of a gas cape pouch which I bought some years ago as genuine / unissued . I am having doubts now especially as it doesn't smell "musty" as I should expect from an item which has supposedly been in storage for so many years.

    So what do you think?

    Tankfreak,

I have some similar and I think they are ok. The reason I say think, is I believe some surplus must have been issued to the early BGS (Border Guard) and are stamped with a red ink BGS, I can't see the stamp on yours clearly?

I have some that are both wartime stamped with a later BGS added?

They are not rare or hard too find so I don't think widely faked?

The post war Bundy one is a very olive green colour inkeeping with the Bundy mess tin colour if that makes any sence?

I have broken my second camera and am now waiting for it to be repaired then I can post a few pics of the different sorts out there.

PS, don't rush to give away your ammo pouch, it may be a late war produced pouch, what colour are the steel parts as its hard to tell with the flash?

    Ian,

On the support strap hook and the closing studs on the ammo pouch, They are normally a distinct lightish grey colour but you pic is flashed out.

Looks similar to mine, think mine is 1944, with the original gas cape inside, it is still fairly flexible but I wouldn't try to unfold it. How hard is it to find the original gas capes these days????

The capes themselves have always been much harder to find than the pouches.

I even have a 44 dated but unfinished pouch in my collection which never had the female half of the press studs fitted. See below for a pic.

    Cheers, Ade.

I think I was lucky to find one, and I grabbed it when I did, think it was AU150 for cape and bag. I have heard a lot about the unfinished bags. At the front military seem to have a supply but they finsh thrum off with " original prym" marked clips instead of just "prym" and they are quite up front about that on their website.
