Can anybody give me any information on this canister? It may have more markings under the black paint but I am not sure where to look.
The silver tag has an address in Portsmouth.

Okay, I am now thinking French made by the arms producer MAS. It is very similar to one at the Australian War Memorial. https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/RE...4.002/?image=1
Mine has a larger top which I think may of been changed at a later date as the colours are not quite the same.
