I'm not an avid enthusiast on the canisters, mostly since I need to do more research, but I have three possible ideas.
1: It was issued to the Afrika Korps and it was painted over like that
2: A vet painted it like that as a war trophy (Unlikely)
3: A post war fake that's made to look real (Unlikely)
Keep in mind I haven't looked at the pictures closely. These are just random ideas I got when I saw it. Seems really interesting though nonetheless.
Anything camo will generally bring a range of views. Especially from photos. This is one I would want to hold in hand and get a closer look at the nooks and crannies.
For me, from these photos, this is one to quickly walk away from. I do not like the wear of the paint and the lack of any patina. Not convincing to me.
