    has anyone seen anything like this on a canteen?

    It would be nice to think that in between fighting a SS trooper found some black paint and a fine brush with which to paint his canteen with the motto of the waffen SS but I think that is far too long a bow to draw. Any wartime etching was done with the point of a bayonet ......

    Put the cover back on and enjoy what looks like a nice plain example of a feldflasche!!
    BTW, my spell-check wants me to change 'WAFFEN SS' to 'WAFFLE SS' which might suit your canteen better?
