    Hi,
I need your « lights » about this German chronograph.
I found on the flea market this item, it not work (spring is broken), I am not a specialist, and I would like to know, if this item is an original, or is it a beautiful fake…………..
The brand is Junghans, the serial number is 19020.
    Thanks for your answers.

Sorry not liking the eagle on the face normally these are marked on the rear with a eagle and M if navy ,i think the eagle has been added later to help sell a old stop watch

Very odd circle around the swastika.....can't say I've ever seen one that looks like it before. The movement also, does not look like a high quality one such as Junghans made. If it was genuine-which I'm not very certain that it is-these things were used for stuff like timing artillery shell flights, etc. If it had an "M" on it, it would be the Naval version of it and would be used for torpedo timing, etc.

The stop watch looks good to me barring the odd looking eagle. The design of the case and hands is identical to the original and the movement seems to be a genuine 'J29a' calibre made by the company. The only real problem is the dial which isn't the same design as known originals as far as I can find. On all the German military stopwatches I have seen, the eagle is engraved on the reverse side on the rear case plate as kradman infers. The font of the makers name is also different than most, but a similar type is seen on some Junghans pocket watches only the letters are 'thinner'.

I have a feeling that it may be a genuine civilian stopwatch that has had a faux dial fitted to sex it up and make it more desirable to collectors, thus increasing it's value, as these timepieces in normal non military design retail at only around £30 or thereabouts.

Here's an example of a non military marked one, although the blackened case may suggest it is, as there is evidence that late war timepieces, certainly KM ones, were no longer engraved with an eagle and letter 'M'. It could also be a private purchase piece as well I guess.

    Regards, Ned.

    Thanks for your answer.

Thank for your pictures, it’s really the same mechanism, except the hinge.
I do not know what to think of my item.

Hi, have exactly the same stop watch, it is absolutely genuine, gunmetal cased, paper dial eagle and swastika, came from J D Smith,British ww2 captain, I have all his medals an ephemera, photographs, letters and this stopwatch in his effects, it came direct from the family I have personal knowledge of the family and therefore totally genuine, from his effects from the war, also have a letter of commendation from Downing Street, all very interesting and these items were found in the family attic recently. I have joined the forum today to send this message, as I have been surfing trying to find info on the stopwatch, from what I have gleamed this is a very interesting piece of social history.
