Default German Gas Mask for opinions

    Hello everyone!

I would like to submit this gas mask example I'm considering for review, and would really appreciate some opinions on it. I've been on the hunt for a matching numbered set for a while, and even though the canister looks to be labeled 483, the seller tells me it's 489 like the mask. My concerns would be any details I've missed that would somehow indicate it is a put together set, been repainted, or otherwise messed with postwar etc., basically a final thumbs up before taking the plunge.

Thanks everyone for your time, and generous attention.

no issues with that one, often you will see them with Bundy straps on - as they are similar- thankfully this one has the original straps - It looks a "nice" albeit common set

    Just what you can see.

Say, is this the type of mask that had filters with asbestos in them? I'm finding lots of threads showing British masks and talking about how to deal with the stuff, but still looking for info on which ones contained it...

Nice set !, the only "flaw" i see is that the name label of the soldier on the spare lens compartment has been removed, that would have perfected the set.

And of course the cleaning cloth and spring retainer... , but this could be added later....

I wouldn't worry about asbestos in the filters...... I have quite a few gasmask sets and i don't worry.....

Of course don't actually use the filters, but that's logical.... 😉

Thanks Tom for the reply! I will have to look for those missing parts. Yeah, I wouldn't want to wear one for sure, and would need to keep after my kid to leave it alone too. Probably need to keep it out of his reach cause kids wouldn't think about stuff like that and just want to put it on.

This mask arrived today. I've been trying to learn more about the filters on these and have been unable to find a cross section or diagram showing the layers that were used for filtration. Does anyone know of a diagram or photo of a cross section that shows the different layers inside the filters?

    Thanks all!
