Default German Gas Masks & Asbestos

    Greetings.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but does anyone have any definitive information regarding whether WW2 German gas masks contained asbestos. I understand the standard advice about not wearing old gas masks, but would like to be 100% sure before buying one in the future...

    Many thanks

If you have a search for "gas masks and asbestos", there are plenty of thread where ade has posted the PVC remerdy of making a old filters safe.
It is generally understood that blue asbestos was used in many ww2 gas masks, however just because the filter is not asbestos does not make it safe. Activated carbon is as bad when it has started to degrade.

Many thanks. For some reason my search wasn't working. However, I've found the threads now. Happy for admin to delete this thread as it's a duplicate.
