Looking for following WWII German items:
    - anything dealing with Allenstein (Olsztyn) and Wehrkreis I in East Prussia,
    - entrenching tool carrier (straight and folding),
    - forestry and hunting items,

I highly doubt they are horse hair. A common error involves the Tornister pack referred to as "pony fur pack." Like the Tornister, most likely this is cow hide - possibly unshaven calf hide. The shape resembles German Winter mittens. The inside reminds me of the quilted pants encountered. I have not seen this as a military issue mitten so it may be a civilian type or Winter clothing drive item donated to the Army. They do resemble Third Reich era mittens and I certainly would buy them as a curio. NH

Thanks for your input. I think they might stand a chance.

They look to me like something from the 50's , seen similar quilting in older hunting and trapping gear . I'd say Canadian made .
