    G'day Kevin

looks matched to me as the Luft used brown leather on allot of their gear.

    Hello Kevin and René,
To be honest, this is not a Luftwaffe canteen, but rather a political/paramilitary one that has been modified to receive a cup.
All military covers include one loop on each side for the carrying strap. Same for the small leather belt around the neck....it shouldn't be there if Luftwaffe*...Sorry
    Thanks

    * this feature can be seen on coconut (in leather or web) and on Sanitäter canteens, but not on standard ones...

    Hi Philip
Thanks a lot for your precise identification and precious expertise. Now I know where this "coconut" came from. You are super!
BTW,In your opinion,Were these extra leather belt added in WWII period or recently?Should I leave them alone or try to take them off thanks.
    Best Regards
    Kevin

As said, definitely a paramilitary canteen, the black (?) cover might be of HJ. It's pretty hard to tell wether the "tuning" has been made during the WWII or later, both stitching work and materials used look strange and I'd rather say it's done after the war. But it depends on the price- if it's cheap, I'd take it cos I like the "recycled" items
