Article about: Thanks - will do !

Default German M31 Canteen - need some help

Here is a new pickup matching HRE39 M31 Canteen with cover and strap.
My question is that the cover is without the leather tab to hold the strap, yet all I seen have it. There is no indication there ever was one. Any ideas ?
Also it is missing the cup - anybody has one for sale either alu or bakelite - thanks !

Nice matching canteen, not sure about the strap, any number of reasons I suppose, I have a HRE39 cap also, but no cup sorry.

You should look for aluminium cup, because HRE canteens had these. As for the missing leather loops on the cover there are two options: 1) it's not the original cover for that particular canteen; 2) if the cover is marked HRE 39, there is a possibility that the loops have been removed (in this case the stitching holes must be visible).

Yes, i want alu one but will settle for the bakelite one -)
The snaps on the cover are seized so i can't take cover off.
There is not a sign of the loop, at least that i can see :-)

Actually you will find more alloy ones than bakelite ( and more copies of them in black plastic so watch out - if it flexes when squeezed, it's NOT bakelite )

When buying online I won't be able to squeeze :-)
    I know bakelite is hard.
I might have found one alu so I hope for the best !

Also bakelite has more gloss finish than the plastic copies which look dull!
